I made a wallpaper today. It was kinda fun. I am trying to figure out how to scan in sketches and paintings and am looking forward to making some with that. I like that I can make anything that I want for my computer.

I didn’t really want to post this. I really really don’t like it. I often try this type of embroidery and it always fails. But giving up is the only sure way to fail, yeah? Maybe tomorrow I’ll get it.

I promise I was creative today! I started a Pokemon embroidery thinking that it would be little and not take very long. But it always takes longer than I expect. It just looks like a blob right now so I’ll finish it up and show you tomorrow? In the meantime, here is one of my most recent projects. The Moneta dress from the Coletterie.
When I embarked on this project it would be the first time I had attempted clothes making in two years! And a stretch fabric no less. Needless to say, I was mildly terrified.
Thank fully this pattern is at a beginner level. It took me about 6 hours of sewing, plus extra cutting out the pattern pieces. There were two parts that I found a little difficult: hemming the neckline and attaching the bodice to the skirt with elastic. The latter was my own fault, having not bought any of the clear elastic which would have made it much easier. The neckline was fiddly and attempting it at midnight was probably not the best idea. When I tried it again in the morning it was easy!
One thing I didn’t consider when using a digital pattern is the amount of time spent putting the paper together. If you get a digital pattern go get it printed on a large A2 sheet or similar. It will save yourself hours!
I really like this dress and will probably make another one. It was super comfy and even has pockets!!!
The pattern is available over at Colette Patterns.
I made this in August last year and it has worn out already because I loved it so much.

My obsession with cacti continues. I saw an illustration with this style on pinterest and wanted to recreate it. I did the watercolours first and gave them a few hours to dry before doing the ink sketches.
I like it when the ink doesn’t perfectly match up with the watercolours. The text doesn’t quite go with the illustration so maybe next time I’ll decorate the envelope, and then do the name…

And my obsession with cacti continues… I think I just need to get some for the apartment to get this out of my system.
I tried just using back-stitch for this one. It turned out, uh, interesting. It isn’t my favourite so far but hey that is what this is all about. Trying different things.
When I reach 100 days there might be little cacti embroideries all over my place. That’ll be nice

My little sister and I are sending each other letters at the moment, and I thought why not decorate the envelopes. I can’t wait to see hers because she is really creative and talented. (I’m totally not envious, why would you say that?!)
This my first attempt at fake calligraphy. My hand writing sucks. Like seriously sucks. I blame it on never learning to hold a pen properly. I made a real effort on this and I think it turned out okay.
It would be cool to try an actual calligraphy nib and see if it is any easier.
My current favourite blog for this sort of stuff is The Postman’s Knock. Her work is incredible!

Today I made a super easy and entirely handsewn pincushion.
I cut a circle out of the fabric with some pinking shears, and then gathered it at the bottom with a pulled running stitch. After stuffing it I decorated it with embroidery thread and a cute button.
It was good to finally use some of the oodles and oodles of fabric and buttons I have hanging around. Now I have no more reasons to put off sewing clothes… I guess we’ll see how that goes in the next week.

Today I stitched a cute cactus! After yesterdays project I thought I would go for something easier. I liked using metallic thread for the first time in a long time. It is sooooooo bloody difficult to work with. If there is a secret to it please tell me!! It is so very pretty and glittery, maybe it is worth it.
It has satiated my need for cacti for now…

Every time I pick up a cross stitch I forget how long it takes. This little square is an inch long but took me 2-3 hours! The aida is a 22 count and there is approx 484 stitches.
I did enjoy stitching with no pattern – only the idea of a nice transition of colour. I quite like it. But next time I think I would do a pattern with less stitches.

I started this with all the intentions of doing mostly sewing. And I haven’t even unpacked my machine yet! I don’t have an iron and am too embarrassed to take it into work to prepare the fabric.
I’ve just been playing with watercolours instead. Art isn’t my strong suit, but you can’t get anywhere without practise, yeah? Yeah.
